January 2016 Program:  Design & Construction "heart" Operations & Maintenance - Sustaining Design Intent and Building Integrity

Planners, architects, engineers, contractors, service vendors and suppliers all organize information:  1) ideas about client needs and solutions, 2) graphics and data about building fabrication, construction and equipment, materials and methods.  The entire design and delivery process through commissioning, building information modeling, LEED Certification are all, at some level, exercises in structuring, validating and applying information.   Can architects better serve the information needs of the managers, mechanics, technicians and trades who operate, maintain, repair, upgrade, and clean buildings and service their occupants over a building’s lifespan – the very people upon whom a building’s ultimate success depends entirely?

  • How does facility information mutate over the life-cycle from project conception, through project management, transitioning, facility management and portfolio management?

  • The delivery team “pushes” buildings to completion; how do facility managers “pull” the information they need into practical use?

  • How can the design/deliver team anticipate and support the six (6) systems-age strategies for facility operations & maintenance?

Martin McElroy, a consultant to global corporations and institutions on facility management process design and information management will present real-time crises and cases where architects, contractors and manufacturers helped their clients capture the full potential of thoughtful design decisions.

Optional tour of Masonic Village at conclusion of program.
